Russia suspended from UNHRC

UN Suspends Russia from Human Rights Council

UN Suspends Russia from Human Rights Council as the invasion of Ukraine continues to cause repulsion and violence around the world.

At a UN General Assembly meeting on Thursday, 93 members voted in favor of diplomatic accusations, 24 opposed and 58 abstained.

This met the required threshold that two-thirds of the members would vote for or against, and the abstention was ignored in the calculation.

"War criminals have no place in UN human rights groups," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted in response. "Thank you to all the member states for choosing the right side of history."

US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield launches an effort to expel Russia from the 47-member Human Rights Council.
